NVIDIA DGX GB300 AI Supercomputer Comes Online at NPS
The U.S. Navy officially launches the NVIDIA DGX GB300 AI supercomputer at the Naval Postgraduate School for defense research and education.

The NVIDIA DGX GB300 AI supercomputer is now operational at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California. The system will serve as the backbone of research and education for thousands of U.S. military officers, providing access to large-scale AI computing for defense and national security applications.
Why an AI Supercomputer at a Military School?
NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang attended the system's inauguration at the Converge @ NPS event. He stressed the importance of technology for soldiers on the front lines.
“Our nation depends on soldiers fighting on the front lines. Nothing is more valuable to you than information and insights, and timely information and insights, and understanding their impact and consequences,” Huang said. “I can't imagine anything more important than this.”
Admiral Samuel Paparo, commander of U.S. Pacific Command, added that modernizing the education of military leaders is crucial.
“As we modernize technology, we must also modernize the way we educate leaders. Access to advanced computing capabilities means NPS students and faculty understand the opportunities and responsibilities that come with this technology.”
The DGX GB300 supercomputer, with NVIDIA Mission Control software, gives more than 1,500 resident students and 600 faculty members direct access to AI model training, inference, and complex simulations. Huang encouraged officers not to hesitate in experimenting with this technology.
“The most important advice I can give someone is to engage with technology. It's not as hard as you think, and the reason is because, from first principles, technology should be getting smarter over time.”
Strategic Research Powered by DGX GB300
NPS is not just an academic institution; all its graduate-level programs are centered on applied research directly relevant to real-world problems. With the arrival of DGX GB300, their research capacity has increased dramatically:
- Weather prediction and atmospheric change: AI models for ocean and climate conditions.
- Cybersecurity: development of machine learning-based threat detection tools.
- Disaster resilience: disaster response planning with real-time simulation.
- Digital twin: through collaboration with MITRE, NPS is building a simulation environment based on NVIDIA Omniverse for navigation and decision-making under uncertainty.
