Google Unveils Gemini Intelligence at Galaxy Unpacked

Google brought a series of AI updates to Samsung's latest foldable devices at Galaxy Unpacked 2026 in London. The three key features unveiled were cross-app task automation via Gemini Intelligence, the Gemini Notebook research app, and Gemini access on smartwatches and smart glasses. These innovations aim to lighten everyday digital chores and significantly enhance productivity.

Task Automation Now Supports Over 40 Apps

Gemini Intelligence, Google's vision for proactive technology, can now handle more of life's digital 'admin.' Following a beta in February, Gemini task automation has expanded from a handful of apps to over 40 popular ones, as announced on the Google AI Blog. The range of tasks has grown too: from booking rides and ordering food delivery to managing dinner reservations, travel tickets, and event purchases.

On the Galaxy Z Flip8, this feature can be accessed directly from the Flex Window with a long press of the power button. Gemini now also uses advanced reasoning to understand on-screen content and process complex images as prompts. Sometimes the easiest way to explain what you need is to show Gemini a photo of a menu or a shopping list. As Gemini works, users can monitor progress step by step, switch to other apps, or close the phone and let Gemini finish in the background. If adjustments are needed, users can briefly take over for specific details, then hand back control. A notification appears when the task is ready for review and confirmation.

Gemini Notebook: A Research Partner for Complex Projects

The Gemini Notebook app (formerly NotebookLM) comes preloaded on Samsung's latest foldable phones. It serves as a thinking and research partner powered by advanced multimodal models. On the Galaxy Z Fold8's expansive screen, users can drag and drop photos, documents, whiteboard images, voice recordings, and more directly into a side-by-side workspace.

The chat feature in Gemini Notebook lets users ask questions about the sources they've added. Beyond that, users can generate high-quality custom content like slide decks, videos, flashcards, quizzes, and even podcasts, all tailored to their learning style. To support larger projects, Google is including a six-month Google AI Pro trial with every Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8, and Flip8. This subscription unlocks premium features such as Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, and Slides.

Gemini Arrives on Watches and Glasses

The Google-Samsung collaboration extends beyond phones. On the Galaxy Watch 9, users can simply raise their wrist to activate Gemini, no wake word needed. Meanwhile, the smart glasses first announced at Google I/O 2026 will launch this fall. At Galaxy Unpacked, Google also revealed two additional frame designs from eyewear partners Gentle Monster and Warby Parker.

Gemini on these smart glasses will support hand gesture controls, provided the user is wearing a compatible Wear OS watch. Gemini's presence on wearable devices promises smoother, hands-free AI assistance.

While these features are currently available only in select countries and languages, they signal a future where AI assistants become more autonomous in aiding daily life.
