xAI Introduces Grok for Google Workspace
xAI's new free add-on lets Google Workspace users access Grok AI inside Sheets, Slides, and Docs for smarter editing and analysis.

xAI has launched a Grok add-on for Google Workspace, rolling out on July 24, 2026. Users of Google Sheets, Slides, and Docs can now access the Grok AI assistant directly from the application sidebar. Available for free on the Google Workspace Marketplace, the add-on brings Grok's reasoning and text generation abilities into everyday documents.
Grok in Google Sheets: On-the-Fly Data Analysis
In Google Sheets, Grok acts as a data analyst that understands your spreadsheet context. You can ask questions and Grok will answer based on the data, pointing to the specific cells it used in calculations. Beyond answering, Grok can write and fill formulas, insert charts, and rerun scenarios when assumptions change. You no longer need to rebuild data models from scratch. All edits Grok makes are standard changes that can be reviewed and undone at any time.
Grok in Google Slides: Turn Outlines into Full Decks
For presentation builders, Grok in Google Slides can turn rough outlines or bullet points into a ready-to-use deck. Grok pulls supporting information from the web or X platform, adding diagrams or images as needed. The add-on adapts the slide design to match your existing theme and rewrites titles so each slide immediately conveys its main point. The result is a standard Google Slides file that remains fully editable, not a static export.
Grok in Google Docs: Writing with Better Structure
In Google Docs, Grok helps you write more efficiently. The assistant can turn rough notes into structured text with clean headings and lists. Grammar fixes are applied directly in the text, and writing style is kept consistent across long documents. If you enable the available connectors, Grok can even pull information from recent emails or files in Google Drive to enrich your content.
Getting Started and Availability
The Grok add-on for Google Workspace can be installed with one click from the Google Workspace Marketplace, immediately covering Sheets, Slides, and Docs. Beyond Google Workspace, Grok is also available for Microsoft 365 apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Wider Access and Productivity Gains
This free add-on opens up productivity gains for students, professionals, and businesses that rely on Google Workspace. Because it's available on the marketplace accessible from anywhere, users can install it at no extra cost. While official documentation currently only mentions English-language support, xAI's move expands generative AI into widely used collaboration tools.
